The Fabrique de la paroisse Notre-Dame de Montréal is a non-profit organization whose history goes hand in hand with that of the city of Montréal. More than 300 years after the beginnings of the city and the construction of the first Notre-Dame church, the organization has retained its dynamism and employs over 200 people. A true institution in Montréal, the Fabrique oversees the healthy development of the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery, the largest in Canada, as well as Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal, a place of pilgrimage, tourism and culture not to be missed. By relying on respect for human beings, ethics, quality customer service, professionalism, rigour and teamwork, the Fabrique manages its activities in such a way as to allow for a financial balance that ensures its sustainability and allows it to fulfill its long-term obligations.
La Fabrique de la paroisse Notre-Dame de Montréal
Erected from 1824 to 1829, Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal is one of the jewels of the city's architectural, artistic and religious heritage. The first Gothic Revival style church in Canada, it was raised to the rank of minor basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1982 and designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1989. Nearly one million visitors each year marvel at its imposing sanctuary, its polychrome vault decorated with gold leaf and the sound of its large Casavant organs.
The Basilica is a gathering place where the faithful receive the Word of the Lord through liturgy, celebration of the sacraments and education to the faith.
Founded in 1854, Notre-Dame-des-Neiges is a Catholic cemetery open to all faiths. It ensures the dignified and respectful repose of close to one million souls, brings comfort and serenity to families in mourning, and provides a space for spirituality. It offers a range of goods and services enabling bereaved families to pay a fitting tribute to their loved ones.
Its exceptional natural setting on Mount Royal, its status as a National Historic Site of Canada, and the collection of funeral artworks it contains make it a unique place of contemplation in Montréal and an essential witness to the history of our society.
