AURA, Fodor's Travel

AURA, an immersive multimedia experience created by Moment Factory presented at the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal, is the event anyone and everyone needs to see this summer. Coupling astonishing visual effects, including digital projections, pulsating lights and fast-moving lasers, to an incredible soundtrack including orchestral compositions and notes from the Basilica’s 7,000 piped organ, AURA is a phenomenon that you should experience from start to finish. This includes the view of the Basilica’s imposing illuminated exterior in all its grandeur, a magical pathway, and the main show.

AURA, flyertalk

Upon walking into the Basilica, a gloomy ambiance dimly lit by the cascading warmth of votive candles greets you. All along the church’s west and east aisles, illuminated stations where exquisite paintings dating back to the 19th century seem to twinkle and move, as if brought to life. To enjoy the full 40-minute experience, the illuminated stations should absolutely be explored up close at your own pace. For this, AURA allows some time for you to discover them before choosing a seat for the show amongst the church pews, with doors opening 30 minutes in advance. Spectators are encouraged to pay close attention to the elaborately designed confessionals as their hidden messages cannot be heard by the untrained ear.
